BDA Dance Programs
Creative Movement for 2 yr olds -We are very excited to be offfering this brand new class for 2 year olds at BDA. Through the use of music, props and games, this class will introduce basic movement to your child. These activities will stimulate your childs imagination, as well as help to develop gross motor skills, listening and following easy directions, interaction with peers and teachers therefore working on social skills, movement skills including strengthening and stretching, gross motor skills include- hopping, jumping, skippping, directional skills include distinguishing right and left, cognitive and listening skills will be developed through the use of music and stories.
Preschool Ballet – must be age 3 by September 1st. Students begin ballet strengthening exercises, as well as ballet barre, ballet positions and body awareness. They learn to follow teachers’ instructions while interacting in a social situation with their peers. Attire is leotard (any style or color) and tights. REQUIRED SHOES – Pink leather ballet shoes, NO Satin ballet shoes. Hair must be pulled away from face.
Ballet/Tap- must be second year student with BDA, ages 4 & 5 by September 1st. Students continue ballet barre, ballet positions and body awareness. With tap, they develop rhythm and musicality. Attire is leotard (any style or color) and tights, skirts are acceptable. REQUIRED SHOES- Pink leather ballet shoes and white tie tap shoes. Hair must be pulled away from face.
Ballet Basics (ages 6 & up)- a more structured class with emphasis on correct ballet terminology, barre, positions and body alignment and center floor work. Attire is black leotard and pink tights, no shorts or skirts. REQUIRED SHOES –Pink leather ballet shoes. Hair must be in a bun with bangs off face.
Tap/Jazz (ages 6-8) - continued development in tap with more emphasis on flexibility of feet, clarity of sounds and rhythm. Introduction to jazz with a basic warm-up, isolations and moves across the floor. Center combinations are taught to age appropriate music. Attire is leotard and tights or dance pants/shorts and dance t-shirt. REQUIRED SHOES – Bloch black split sole slip on jazz shoes, Capezio tan Mary Jane with strap. Hair must be pulled away from face.
Ballet (prerequisite Ballet Basics) - A continuation in a structured class with emphasis on technique at the barre, center floor and across the floor. Attire is black leotard and pink tights, no shorts or skirts. Hair must be in a bun with no bangs. Required shoes- Pink leather split sole ballet shoes.
Ballet Tech- is for Int/Adv students wishing a structured class with the emphasis placed on ballet technique.This class does not work on a recital routine. It's a great class to take and keep ballet technique strong. REQUIRED SHOES – Pink leather split sole ballet shoes. Hair must be in a bun with no bangs.
Pointe/Pre-Pointe- by teacher recommendation only. Attire is solid color leotard, no shorts or skirts, with pink or black tights. REQUIRED SHOES – Pointe shoes must be fitted at Premier Dancewear. Hair must be in a bun with no bangs.
Jazz- is a stylized form of dance which incorporates Ballet for technique. Students do warm-up, isolation and moves across the floor, leaps, turns and center combinations. Attire is any color or style leotard and tights, fitted pants or shorts and fitted dance tops (no loose fitted clothing). REQUIRED SHOES – Bloch black split sole slip on jazz shoes. Hair must be secured off of face.
Tap- is a form of dance where rhythmic sounds are created by the feet. Attire is leotard and tights, dance pants or shorts and dance top.
REQUIRED SHOES - Level 1-3- Bloch black slip on split sole tap shoes. Level 4-7 Capezio tan split sole tie tap shoes. Hair must be secured off of face.
Lyrical (must be enrolled in Ballet & Jazz) - is a combination of jazz and ballet, where movement reflects the feeling and lyrics of the song. Attire is leotard and tights, fitted pants or shorts and fitted dance tops. REQUIRED SHOES – foot thong or tan split sole jazz shoe. . Hair must be secured off of face.
Hip Hop – is a free style form of dance influenced by street dance and current trends. Fun, high energy and full of funk! Attire is dance pants and dance top or t-shirt. No shorts or jeans for class. REQUIRED SHOES Levels 1 Gym shoes. Level- 2-5 Bloch black/silver hip hop shoes and Levels 5-10, DSII hip hop shoes
Leaps & Turns (Jazz) - Attire is leotard and tights, fitted pants or shorts and fitted tops. REQUIRED SHOES – slip on split sole jazz shoe. Hair must be secured off of face.
Tumbling- Acrobatic tricks with the use of mats. Attire is leotard and tights (optional) with shorts or skirts. No t-shirts. Boys may wear shorts and t-shirts. REQUIRED SHOES – Acrobatic shoes. Hair must be secured off of face.
Modern- an expressive syle of dance which rejects the conventional movements and structures of classical ballet.
